The nice weather over the past holiday weekend really helped out with getting a lot accomplished on the train layout. A couple of trips to the lumber store and the sun setting past 9pm, we are halfway around the yard. Taking almost every train car we own out today I had no problem going down the 2 1/2% grade but a bit of a struggle going back up. Being used to having our longest straight-away be 8ft, I am amazed at how beautiful a long stretch of railcars looks. Before it took me 30 seconds to take the train around, now it takes over a minute to drive to the back corner of the yard! It is too hot today to work in the sun, so the evenings have turned into the time when I go into action.

Around the Bend in G-Scale Garden Train Fun Land - 05-22-16
Blog Entry & Photos by Bob
I had a numerous thoughts about where to place the posts as the track turned. Each radius track section is about 3ft long, but having the posts that close would look ridiculous. When I was planning to dig footings I staked the backyard every 5ft. Realizing that I could cantilever the top decking off the sides of the lower spans, I decided to space the posts around the bends at 8ft as well. Over the past week I managed to find more deck blocks and buy another load of lumber to keep going. Hopefully over the long weekend I can get a lot accomplished.
