Snappy Visits the G-Scale Pond - June 1, 2011

After an evening of metal detecting we headed for home to find a vehical in our drive-way, with its lights on. Upon exiting our vehicle we noticed three bodies in our backyard, one hunched over our pond and two standing. It ended up being my sister-in-law and her kiddies.

She sort of laughed nervously as we approached and explained how her and the kids were in our area visiting my nephew's girlfriend at an ice cream shop and when they were coming back they stumbled upon a turtle on the road. She was scared it was going to get hit by a car and picked it up and put it in her car and started making frantic calls on her cell to people who might take this "turtle" into their own pond as a pet. She called my mother-in-law who has two ponds in the city along with a lot of fish and she said no. They called a friend of my nephew's and he said no. What else would they do? Ohh... let's put it in her brother & wife's pond. LOL Good intentions only.

Thing is, it wasn't your typical small turtle.... it was quite a large on. A snapper in fact.

They made it surface with a large stick - ohhhh man, what to do what to do. As they left, hubby and I made a quick agreement that Snappy would NOT be happy in our pond and of course there was a pretty good chance she would try and escape to lay eggs and might destroy the train layout or even escape the yard and get hit by a train or a car, we decided to get the turtle out of the pond ASAP and move it to a place where it would be much much MUCH happier (along with us) LOL

With a snow shovel in hand Snappy was carefully captured and placed in the a blue box.

Upon carrying the blue box to the car, Snappy had an episode to show hubby that he wasn't too impressed, he hissed and sort of tried to get out of the box. We hurried to our destination - a lovely deep creek and let Snappy go.

A Happy Ending. :o)
