It's Fred ! 11-28-2010

Last weekend as you know we went to Winona Garden Railway and Bob was able to play with his CN Engine.

Of course when we go there we just have to buy some things. "It's Worth The Drive to Winona Garden Railway" LOL

We picked up another piece of track, along with a train car and some other goodies. One of those items was a FRED - Flashing Rear End Device.

This past week, Bob played around with it, painted it up and installed it onto one of the train cars. Actually, you can attach it to the back of any car.

Here are some before and after photos along with a video clip of it working. Yaaay!!

Back to Winona Garden Railway to Play - 11-20-2010

After running around in the morning to get winter tires installed on my car and to order some wine for Christmas - Yum Yum - we headed off to Winona Garden Railway as Bob needed to pick up a piece of track to complete our layout and of course to run his locomotive on the nice big layout they have there.

While Bob was "playing" I was able to take some photos and videos.

Taking the Night-Train 11-13-2010

It was well after midnight - Andrew had just left to go home back to Toronto as he had been down to go with myself and some other family members to see Bob act in a play.

The fog was quite thick in the area and Bob decided he would take his train cars outside with a blacklight and try and take some piccies.

This is what he got:

The black light did not seem to be working as he wanted it to.   So he tried the flash, but as you can see the fog showed up.

So then he tried another option, with a spot light.

When Box Elders Attack

What's a Box Elder you ask?

Wikipedia says:

Boisea trivittata is an American species of true bug, commonly known as the Box Elder Bug, the Zug, or Maple Bug. It is found primarily on boxelder trees, as well as maple and ash trees [1] . The adults are about 12½ mm (½ in) long with a dark brown or black coloration, relieved by red wing veins and markings on the abdomen. Nymphs are bright red.

The boxelder bug is sometimes known as a garage beetle or may be confused with other Jadera spp., especially Boisea rubrolineata. The name "stink bug," which is more regularly applied to the family Pentatomidae, is sometimes used to refer to Boisea trivittata. Instead, these insects belong to the family Rhopalidae, the so-called "scentless plant bugs". However, boxelder bugs are redolent and will release a pungent and bad-tasting compound upon being disturbed to discourage predation; this allows them to form conspicuous aggregations without being preyed on.

One day in late September we came home from work to find that the bottom part of a tree at the back of the yard was red. Upon further investigation, we found this:

So, what did you think Bob did. LOL

Yep, photo op time with the G-Scale gang.

And then he decided to do some piccies with the baby burning bush.

Another Bridge - 11-06-2010

It was 4 degrees this morning when we got up, and even though I wanted to sleep in, Mr. Bob decided he would get up before 8am and head outside to work on his train layout and continue adding to the loop. One step closer. I couldn't sleep because he wasn't there and got up too and made some coffee, but then it was decided we would head out to pick up some groceries and maybe it would warm up a bit once the sun made its apperance. We got home around 2pm and Bob headed outside and he built up another section and added a bridge which he had purchased 2nd hand. He had to do a photo session with the other engine.
