FIRST TRAIN on the 2016 LOOP in G-Scale Garden Train Land

Blog Entry and photos By BOB

After several months of work, it is finally time to run a train around the loop.  We thought this day would never come.  Hooking the big SD-70 to a load of tanker cars it pulled out to make the run.  Having lowered the climbing grade to 2.0% we had our fingers crossed that this single locomotive would not have any problems dragging a dozen cars uphill.  Everything worked perfectly and soon afterwards the battery had drained (When did we charge this last?  It must have been a year ago.)  We are going to enjoy the layout for the next couple of weeks before I set back to work with new improvements.

Train Loop Finally Connected in G-Scale Garden Train Land - 07-23-16

Photos and Blog Entry by Bob

June and July have been unbearably hot with no rain for two months and the temperature with humidex normally reaching near 40 degrees C everyday.  Work had ground to a halt for finishing the layout except for the rare times at dusk.  With a bit of a cooler weekend, we pushed through the heat to move some sod, dig up the dirt, place the rocks and grade the last pieces of track.  Although there is some fine grading and levelling that need to be done we are ready to start running trains again!!!
